Pakistan’s PM first yatra to US - Size of delegation being finalized

Washington: The story of PM’s first visit to the US begins with Asif Zardari who wanted to accompany the Pakistan’s PM to his firsts visit to Washington. He also invited Nawaz Sharif to accompany him to the US. This clearly sent signals to the President of US about who is the the main person or the power behind the PM. Of-course due to non diplomatic status of Zardari US would not have given protocol to Mr. Zardari. Zardari got the hint and has refrained from going to the US.

Now the number of delegates to accompany the PM is under discussion. Would it be 35, 70 or more.

Kabul Indian embassy bombing and violation of ceasefire along LOC hamper dialog between Pakistan and India

New Delhi: The two incidents - Bombing at the Indian Embassy in Kabul and violation ceasefire alongside LOC created a somber atmosphere at the Hyderabad House where the foreign secretary Salman Bashir and Shivshankar Menon, his Indian counterpart met. Mr. Menon has put forward his reservation about the dialog and has also said that the talk between India and Pakistan are also at a risk.

Government’s move to withdraw some duties and restricting other charges resisted by oil companies

Islamabad: The petroleum ministry has suggested removal of certain duties and some other charges that are not according to the norms of the trade. Such duties and charges have resulted in passing on more burden to the consumer. Senator Rukhsana Zuberi along with the ministry of petroleum made a presentation to the finance ministry in this regard. The Finance Ministry agreed in Principal that the removal of such duties and charges does not seem to be justified.

The proposal of cutting the duties and restricting other charges was put forward to the oil companies and the oil refinery on July 18, 2008, which was not accepted by them.

Pakistan’s current account deficit widen to $14.4 billion

Karachi: The imbalance of trade and service caused the current account deficit to widen by $14.4 billion at the end of last fiscal year. According to the State of Pakistan statistics the trade deficit stood and $15.286 billion while the services imbalance stood at $6.302 billion.

Loose and win games continue at Karachi Stock Exchange

Karachi: The Karachi stock exchange maintained its uneven trading trend yesterday. The trading session started with the loss of 180 points but by the end of day the KSE-100 index snapped a speedy recovery of 139.52 points and closed at 10,374.30 points.
