Mesa, Arizona (CaymanMama.com) — A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association has found that Pfizer Inc.’s drug Viagra which is used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction can considerably reduce the adverse effects of the use of antidepressants in women

Viagra sales have not risen for years but can actually get an immense boost in its sales with this new information. The sales can improve if the report findings result in a new market that is opened for Viagra which was introduced about a decade ago.

The doctors who were involved in the the study from University of New Mexico School of Medicine have estimated that the antidepressant treatment can result in sexual dysfunctions in about 30% - 70% of the people who are treated major depression ailments. In fact, JAMA article stated that it is, “believed no randomized controlled trial has demonstrated an effective treatment for women experiencing sexual dysfunction” from the antidepressant drugs.

The researchers have found that 28% of the women who take the drug Viagra have shown no improvement. The other 73% of them have shown incredible results. In fact, the study also did not show any of serious or adverse effects in women.

The authors have noted that women experience major depressive disorders twice the rate as compared to men. Further, they are also the ones to suffer greater sexual dysfunctions subsequently. They have noted that by effectively treating the treatment-related problems, it can actually “reduce the current high rates of premature medication discontinuation and improve depression disease management.”

Pfizer, which is the largest drug maker, has been fiercely fighting the existing and the impending generic competitions for the top selling drug of Viagra.
