Dell Shrinks the Desktop With Studio Hybrid

Dallas, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — On Tuesday, Dell introduced a desktop that is ultra small and super sleek. The company says that the new desktop they have introduced is 80% smaller than the usual tower desktops.

Dell also claimed that the new studio hybrid uses 70% less power than standard desktops. In a press release, Dell announced that since space conservation is prime these days, the basic objective behind the hybrid is to make it fit almost anywhere, at home or in the office.

The hybrid will run Intel’s Pentium Dual Core and Core 2 Duo processors and will support 4G bytes of RAM and 320G bytes of hard drive storage. It will include an Gigabit Ethernet and optional wireless networking as well. Moreover, it will be preloaded with Windows Vista operating system.

The optional Blu-ray DVD drive will be available by August, the dimensions of which are not known thus far.

Dell has priced the starting range of these desktops at $499 and will first sell them through Dell’s website. With the monitor included, the price of the desktop will start at approximately $689. It will be available through retailers later this year and will be available in six colors. Dell offers XPS One, an all-in-one PC, so it is not the first entry of Dell into mini desktop space.

The desktop is quite useful for homebuyers who do not require much mobility and high performance systems. This desktop does not though deliver workstation class performance as per Roger Kay, president of the Endpoint Technologies Associates. Kay said that the Hybrid contains notebook components mostly. He added, “It could be visually more interesting and…unobtrusive. Since its small, you can just hide it.” He also said that there are many opportunities for the ultra small desktops like Dell’s Studio Hybrid.
