Istanbul (Reuters) 13 out of 138 illegal immigrants died during their journey via Turkey’s largest city Istanbul. Turkey is the major human trafficking route via which illegal immigrants try and enter Europe.
440 sq. meters ice piece breaks off Canadian ice shelf
Edmonton (AP): Large piece of ice measuring 440 sq. meters in size and 40 meters in thickness broke off from the Canadian ice shelf last week. According to the researchers at Trent University, the piece had been there for 3000 year. A crack was discovered in 2002 after which it gradually grew, finally leading to the break off of the piece of ice.
UK prepares to crack down on bogus students – strict control on foreign students enforced by Britain
London (Reuters): Britain plans to enforce strict controls on its education system for foreign students. School and colleges will have to report such students to the Home office who miss 10 lectures or differ their studies. Moreover, universities that enroll students for durations longer than 6 months will have to get a license. Foreign students will have to provide sponsorship from licensed institution and also provide proof of financial support for themselves and their families.
Former Bosnian Serb Leader shifted to Hague, to face UN war crimes tribunal
The Hague (Reuters): Radovan Karadzic has been transferred to the Hague yesterday where he would face the UN war crimes tribunal on Thursday on charges of genocide during Bosina war 1992-95.
Israel – Syria 5th round out talks in Mid August
Istanbul (Reuters) 5th round of Turkish mediated Israel – Syria talks will begin in Mid August. The 4th round ended yesterday but both the sides are still reluctant to meet face to face and hold direct talks. The sources disclosed that the 4th round was positive.
