It was reported that the multilingual people of New York were speaking up in favor of human rights. At the South Street Seaport, an audio installation featured the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which was being read in 50 different languages.
Brenda Ray, a film sound engineer known for having started the World Voices Project two years ago, said that the she wanted to depend on universal humanity. Ray added that she loved to hear the sound of the human tone as well as hearing languages which she does not speak. In addition, Ray said that the way in which people talk sets a rhythm, telling a story of its own.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is said to be available in 335 languages and has been reported to have become the most interpreted document in the world.
Apart the famous romance languages, the free display held at Pier 17 provides excerpts from 30 articles of the Universal Declaration in Amharic of Ethiopia, Shona of Zimbabwe and Tigrinya of Eritrea among others.
Ray, who hails from East village, has not tramped through the world recording the tongues but said that a good number of voices were heard from immigrants to New York including strangers, family and friends who desired to have their language heard.
Ray was reported saying that people were excited to witness their languages being represented after being equally disenchanted when they could not find it, as is the case very often. Adding to the statement, Ray said that the city has integration and a diversity that have made the World Voice project possible without having to travel.
