New study reveals 40 percent increase in HIV cases in U.S.
2008-08-04 15:20:34 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - Health News News)West Palm Beach, Florida (CaymanMama.com) — In a recent report, it has been found that the number of people affected with HIV/AIDS every year in the United States was 40% higher from what was seen in government estimates. This was reported by U.S. health officials. They also reported having acknowledged the fact that they have been underestimating the pandemic of the virus responsible for causing HIV/AIDS.
According to the report, the U.S. had 56,300 cases of new HIV/AIDS infections in 2006 which signifies a dramatic increase in comparison to the prior estimate.
HIV activists and health leaders in South Florida have said that the new findings justified their claim for more federal money to be allocated to this cause and for a national epicenter to fight the virus. These findings are a part of the new study that will be unveiled in the International AIDS Conference to be held in Mexico City.
Palm Beach and Broward countries have been reported to have been cutting hundreds of millions of dollars on services for HIV/AIDS such as food banks, case managers and transportation because the money grants from the federal government have been contributing to the increase in AIDS patients for last five years.
HIV Care Council Chairman, Glenn Krabec, said that they desperately need more help which has overseen the federal grants for HIV/AIDS in Palm Beach County. He also said that the poorer populations of the people are among the hardest hit. He also added that their main objective for keeping aside funds is for medical care but, there were a lot of auxiliary services that needed to be made in order to work out the medical care.
