Islamabad: Asif Ali Zardari and Mian Nawaz Sharif, heads of their respective political parties will be meeting today to discuss various issues including restoration of judiciary and impeachment of the President. Nawaz Sharif maintains that he is in favor of continuing with the strategic political alliance with Pakistan Peoples party but his partners have not yet fulfilled any promised agreed in the Murree declaration nor have walked on the path laid down in the charter or democracy signed earlier. The talks between the leaders of Pakistan Muslim League and Pakistan Peoples Party can be decisive whether they would carry on with the coalition government or would part ways.
President Pervaiz Musharraf might be asked to seek vote of confidence
Islamabad: Pakistan Peoples Party, in order to provide a workable solution with the Pakistan Muslim League might lay down some of its cards on the table and suggest that the President Pervaiz Musharraf would be asked to take vote of confidence from the Parliament. The same was agreed upon by the attorneys of the President, who has given written assurance to the court that the President will seek vote of confidence from the new assembly.
Pakistan to import 1000MW of power from Central Asia
Islamabad: Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan has agreed to export 1000 MW electricity to Pakistan. An agreement was signed between 4 countries in which Afghanistan and Pakistan would jointly import 1300 MW of electricity from the Tajikistan and Kyrgyztan. Afghanistan would use 300MW and 1000MW will be used by Pakistan.
US approves $78 million for upgrading Pakistan’s aging F-16 fleet
Washington: After the rejection from the congress for converting $230 million from the counter terrorism fund to be used for upgrading the old F-16, Pakistan has received assurances from the US the US administration would provide $78 million for the purpose of fixing the aging fleet of F-16.
Senate received assurance from the government on issues of national security
Islamabad: The senate on Monday was given assurances that government is active and is in constant watch out for any threats on national security. Mr. Raza Rabbani, told the senate that the coalition government is handling the affairs of the government seriously.
