Detroit, Michigan (CaymanMama.com) — The new movie “Bottle Shock” takes the audience in the flashback of earlier days when men used to wear plaid suits. It also highlights the wine tasting ritual and how those who are very serious about the wine tasting sneer at the mention of the word California. Staying substantially close to the records of historical data, director Randall Miller, well known for screenplay fame with wife Ross Schwartz and Jody Savin, has reestablished the watershed moments where world accepts the Golden State and ultimately the non-French regions related to viticulture.

In 1976 at one of the gatherings near Paris, a group of experts conducted a blind tasting where two brands of wine emerged triumphant over the other more pedigreed competitors of French wine. This tasting provided the “climax” to the brand of “Bottle Neck”. The fact of the matter is that the adherence of the movie to the clichés of triumph of the underdog had removed all lurking doubts about the potentially surprising outcome of its win.

There are, of course, two underdogs that have a craving for triumph. In this race, the first one appears to be Steven Spurrier played by popular star, Alan Rickman who is well known for his beleaguered pomposity and very parched voice. Spurrier is one of the British wine dealers who is vainly seeking the way to the establishment of French oenology.

This blind tasting is a stunt that he cooks up well with his ally Maurice, an émigré from Milwaukee, who is commonly known for his garish clothes and rough manner that belie his sophisticated palate. At the urging of Maurice, Spurrier has made his way to the land of Napa, where Bill Pullman (Jim Barrett) quotes Hemingway as well as try to transform his entire life.
