Free music offered to China by Google

It is like a musical treasure trove for the company but most of the music it has is illegal. In order to increase the market share, Google has come up with an innovative idea to offer free legal music to China.
Google has launched Music Onebox’s beta version which is available in China exclusively at www.google.cn. One of the spokespersons from Google said, “We are launching Music Onebox to give users an easy and legal way to find the music they’re looking for, and to give music labels and publishers a new channel to distribute, promote and make money off of their valuable music content.”
Google has said that it will not take shares in any of the profits that will be made through advertisements on the music service. All of the money generated from advertisements will be divided between the publishers, music labels and www.Top100.cn. According to ArsTechnica at a time when there is an ever-increasing pressure on Baidu to pay up for this burgeoning music piracy, this service is like a straight challenge. Music 2.0 says that at this particular moment, selection on the Top100 is very limited.
As per the SanFran MusicTech Summit’s executive producer and Future of Music Coalition technologies director, Brian Zisk, Music Onebox by Google is a model of YouTube. He says that in the present case, it is an attempt to draw increasing numbers of people to the Search Engine. He stated, “”They are establishing their presence there, one way or another, they can turn it into money.”
In the United States, a service like this is unthinkable owing to the fact that the U.S. market pays the bills of the music industry to a certain extent. This is not so in China.
