Gotti acquaintances cooperating with prosecutors
2008-08-07 17:04:16 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - News)Los Angeles, California (CaymanMama.com) — Frank Gotti, the 12-year old brother of John A. Gotti, died in a tragic accident in March 1980. This occurred when a car struck his mini-motorized 2-wheeler in Howard Beach. The driver of the car was 51-year old John Favara who disappeared 4 months after the accident and was presumed to be murdered. John Gotti, Frank’s father, was in Florida when the disappearance took place.
After 20 years, Kevin McMahon, the boy who lived in the neighborhood and had given his bike to Frank Gotti, played a significant role in the Gambino crime investigation which led to the arrest of John ‘Junior’ Gotti on murder and federal racketeering charges. Federal officials say that 44-year old Gotti remained in a Manhattan federal jail on Wednesday and is expected to be shifted to Tampa in the next 7-10 days.
Officials say that he was arrested in his home in Oyster Bay Cove on Tuesday morning. Gotti will have to wait for 3 weeks before being sent to Florida. McMahon, 39, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Tampa in 2004 on charges of racketeering, among several others from New York and Florida.
He had been convicted in 2006 and is still waiting for his sentence. The records of the court show that many sentencing dates have been postponed repeatedly which are an indication that he has been cooperating, according to an anonymous attorney. Steve Cole, the spokesperson for the office of a U.S. attorney in Tampa, said that prosecutors are not likely to comment upon who have been cooperating in the investigation. John Alite, an acquaintance of Gotti’s from Howard Beach, has also cooperated with federal investigators.
The investigation originally enmeshed Alite, McMahon and Ronald Trucchio, the captain of the Gambino crime web, and focussed on the criminal band that evolved in the 1980s in Queens. The gang was engaged in gambling, drug dealing and car theft and one of the witnesses said that Junior Gotti was also a part of that gang. The case of Alite is still waiting to go for trial while his defense attorney did not return calls for comment.
