EXACT Sciences announces new technology
2008-08-08 15:40:41 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - Technology News)Portland, Maine (CaymanMama.com) — Exact Sciences Corporation (EXACT) as announced the results of a search in which human blood and stool samples were evaluated in a head to head comparison to detect CRC (colorectal cancer). Using Johns Hopkins University’s enhanced BEAMing DNA detection technology, the search results demonstrated about 92% understanding in detecting CRC in the stool samples.
Prominently, the search analysis showed that after using the BEAMing DNA detection technology, the stool based DNA assessment outperformed the blood-plasma testing, particularly for the detection in the early stages of CRC. EXACT Sciences possess the exclusive rights and privileges to the Johns Hopkins University BEAMing technology for use in the next generation stool based DNA detection technology for the colorectal cancer.
A sum of twenty-five stool DNA samples from CRC patients were studied in addition to the next generation stool based DNA technology appropriately identified 92% (23) of the cancers in the study. In 16 of the 25 cases where plasma and stool DNA samples were paired, the stool-based DNA detected altered DNA in the stool in 88% (14) cases where as 50% (8) corresponding the plasma DNA tests had noticeable levels of the mutated DNA.
Furthermore, when the last stage disease (i.e. the Stage IV) is eliminated from the sum, non invasive stool based DNA performance stayed at 12/14 (86%) where as the performance of the plasma DNA fall down to 6/14 (43%).
