R&B legend, Isaac Hayes dies at 65

Detroit, Michigan (CaymanMama.com) — In another tragedy death, Oscar winner, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, and R&B legend, Isaac Hayes passed away on Sunday afternoon. He was found in an unconscious state at his house on August 10 and was pronounced dead by authorities. The music icon was 65-years old and had bagged the much-deserved Oscar for his great musical talents.

According to reports by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department in Memphis, Tennessee, Hayes, who has been known for his R&B classic  theme from Shaft and recently as the voice of Chef on South Park, was discovered near a treadmill by his relatives. Many unsuccessful attempts were made to revive Hayes after which he was declared dead after 2 p.m. in Memphis on Sunday afternoon.

The career of Isaac Hayes began as a producer and song writer for Stax Records in Memphis. Stax Records is a leading name and 1960s R&B label which were widely thought of as the Detroit Motown’s southern counterpart. Among his best compositions is “Soul Man” which was recorded originally by Sam & Dave. This was a big hit later on when it was recorded again in 1978 by the Blues Brothers.

His first breakout was in 1969 as a performer with the Hot Buttered Soul album. “Theme from Shaft”, 1971, won Hayes an Oscar for his exemplary performance at the Academy Awards which catapulted him to national stardom. Owing to this great profile of his, Hayes shot to great heights in his career and got a break in the movies. He started with Truck Turner and Tough Guys in 1974. Other roles that have been quite notable are the Escape by John Carpenter in 1981, Hustle and Flow in 2005 and I’m Gonna Git You Sucka in 1988. Until 2006, he was the voice for South Park’s Chef character.
