2008-08-13 15:28:16 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - Entertainment News)Los Angeles, California (CaymanMama.com) — The new espionage thriller Edwin A. Salt which was slated to hit Hollywood’s big screen in 2010 with Tom Cruise as its star will now star Angelina Jolie, as reported by Michael Fleming of Variety. Jolie is very near to finalizing the deal to be the leading star of the movie, acting as a CIA officer who is accused of becoming a Russian spy and staying on the run until the time she can confirm her innocence.
The movie sounds like a mixture made from a combination of “The Bourne Identity” and “Mission Impossible”; the only difference is that this new film will feature a woman in the lead role. The popular screenwriter, Kurt Wimmer, will work upon the espionage thriller with Columbia Pictures, and Philip Noyce will be directing the movie.
Cruise’s interest in the movie vanished recently as the script was full of numerous A-list male actors. Jolie expressed her interest in the film and why not? After all, Universal had successfully beefed up Jolie’s ‘Wanted’ part and the movie grossed $132 million domestically. Also, after working on “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” and “Lara Croft”, Jolie has already proven her potential as an action heroine.
The only question that remains unanswered is whether the international beauty will be doing this movie or “Atlas Shrugged” by LionsGate now that she has her twins to look after. Also, Jolie’s film “The Changeling” which is directed by Clint Eastwood will be openingin late October. One can easily say that this star is unstoppable.
