Google, Yahoo, MSN challenged by Wikipedia search
2008-08-15 05:17:24 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - Technology News)Singapore (CaymanMama.com) — Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia and the Wiki Search is challenging the domination of the Google, Yahoo and MSN search engine market. Wales hopes the Wiki search engine will break through the big 3’s control over the internet and give web users more control on their virtual properties.
The founder of Wikipedia says that the Wiki Search is being built on the same platform as Wikipedia which is a popular online encyclopedia that can be edited and updated by anyone that has access to the internet.
Jimmy believes that in U.S. there is a great deal of competition in the web industry and more than 90% of searches are done through the three giant search engines. He said that the U.S. needs a wider or broader market place where people can search with ease without giving away their internet search freedom away.
The Wiki search, he says will allow searchers to use the internet in a meaningful way.
