Attorney of Pakistan woman arrested on terror charges takes action
2008-08-15 18:19:10 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - News)New York City, New York (CaymanMama.com) – The attorney of a Pakistan woman arrested on charges of terror and accused of possessing a New York landmarks list to attack said that her client was tortured just after she was apprehended in Afghanistan on charges that she tried to kill U.S. soldiers. Attorney Elizabeth Fink represents Aafia Siddiqui, 36, and believes that her client has been tortured as she has extensive experience with people who are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Fink, who had worked earlier with William Kunstler, an activist attorney, blasted the government as news reports came out stating that Siddiqui possessed a New York landmarks list at the time of her arrest containing locations such as the subway system, Times Square and the animal disease lab of Plum Island. She said that the list had been planted on her client who had not been told about the contents in the list.
According to a criminal complaint registered in a Manhattan federal court, Siddiqui possessed a landmarks list, a 1 GB computer zip drive and excerpts from Anarchist Arsenal when military officers arrested her. According to the complaint, there were documents in her handbag that described how chemical weapons, explosives and other weapons like radiological agents and biological material are created. She also had chemical substances in the form of liquid and gel which were sealed in glass jars and bottles.
New York state officials did not view it as a threat to the assets and landmarks of New York. Popular facilities and landmarks of New York have often been found on the lists of the suspected terrorists earlier and for authorities, the main question becomes whether people possessing these lists have any means or opportunities to actually take action. The authorities indicated that they believe Siddiqui was not in a position to take any threatening action.
