First satellite sent into space by Iran

Tehran (Reuters): Iran launched its first domestically made satellite was launched yesterday. The Iranian news agency said that “Iran’s Omid (hope) satellite was launched on Sunday by using Safir (ambassador) satellite-carrier rocket.”

200 Palestinian prisoners to be released by Israel

Jerusalem (AFP): Ahead of US Secretary of States Condoleezza Rice’s visit to Israel the Israeli cabinet voted for release of 200 Palestinan prisoners. The Israeli Prime Minister’s spokesman called this decision a “confidence building measure.”

Russian troops to pull out of Georgia from today

Tbilisi (Reuters): The Russian government announced withdrawal of its troops from Georgia from today (Monday). The statement issued by the government read “From tomorrow, Russia will begin the withdrawal of the military contingent which was moved to reinforce Russian peacekeepers after the Georgian aggression against South Ossetia.”

Gates negates views of US government’s senior terrorism analyst

Washington (AFP):Gates said that he disagrees with the assessment of the senior US terrorism analysts. According to Gates opinion Al-Qaeda is now more insecure as it does not enjoy support of Afghanistan. He negated the analysts view of Al-Qaeda enjoying safe haven inside Pakistan.

300 copies of Bible seized from four US citizens in China

Beijing (AFP): US missionary called ‘Vision Beyond Borders’ were held by the airport customs authorities by the Chinese authorities and seized 300 copies of bible that had been printed in Chinese language. The authorities said that it was illegal to carry books into the country.
