Gary, Indiana (CaymanMama.com) — The notorious Guinness Book of World Records has charted the course of all that is odd, bizarre, and extraordinary during it’s history. One of it’s tallest orders to fill in the scheme of curiosity was Sandy Allen of Shelbyville, Indiana who was  believed to be the world’s tallest woman.

In an unfortunate report by the AFP,  Allen, 53, passed away on Wednesday at the Heritage House Convalescent Center nursing home due to worsening health in recent years and it appears that Allen died of natural causes. At a staggering seven feet, seven inches tall, it was reported that at the tender age of 10, Allen was already a shocking six foot three inches. Once puberty hit, Allen surpassed the seven feet tall mark, said the Indianapolis Star Daily.

Medical issues is what was believed to have been the reason for Allen’s height as doctors thought that a tumor growing on her pituitary gland was causing the abnormal growth. During her twenties, Allen had the tumor removed was still haunted by a slew of health problems due to her height which included weak leg muscles, poor circulation and an overall feeling of isolation due to her confinement to a wheelchair.

In a desperate attempt for companionship, Allen wrote to Guinness in 1974 and said, “I would like to get to know someone that is approximately my height. It is needless to say my social life is practically nil and perhaps the publicity from your book may brighten my life.”
