Spanish Airline jet crashes during takeoff

Madrid (Reuters): 45 people died with 19 left with serious injuries when the Spanish airline jet carrying 165 people crashed during takeoff, according to official government sources. However, unconfirmed reports from the emergency services say that 150 people have died in the crash.

Beijing (AFP) Successor of Mao Zedong, Hua Guofeng, chairman of the ruling communist party in China died yesterday at the age of 87. Xinhua news agency praised the communist party’s leader by saying “an outstanding CPC member, a long-tested and loyal Communist fighter and a proletarian revolutionary who once held important leading posts in the CPC and the government.”

Arms race can begin with N- deal with India

Washington (AFP) Democrats Edward Markey and Ellen Tauscher pointed out that the US-India nuclear deal can trigger arms race in the region. With Pakistan’s President Musharraf gone, the arms race could not be controlled with ease. They said that the 45 nation Nuclear Suppliers can say yes to the N-deal only if India meets two conditions; one - they should sign the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and second - India must stop production of nuclear material for arms.

Lebanon can be Israel’s target if Hezbollah becomes party of the government

Jerusalem (AFP): The Israeli authorities have warned Lebanese leaders that it can target all of Lebanon if Hezbollah becomes that part of the government. The statement released by Israeli authorities state “The moment the Lebanese government confers legitimacy on Hezbollah, it must understand that the entire Lebanese state will be a target in the same way that all of Israel is a target for Hezbollah.”

McCain ready to take on Barack Obama

Washington (Dawn News): Barack Obama’s lead in the Presidential race has been cut by half by his rival McCain. The polls carried out by CNN and 2 other leading news agencies show that Obama leads by slim 3 points over McCain.
