US envoy to UN charged for unofficial contacts with PPP’s co-chairman

Washington (CaymanMama.com) — US State department officials have pin pointed the US ambassador to UN, Zalmay Khalilzad for having unauthorized contacts with the Co-Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party, Asif Ali Zardari.

The US ambassador has reported being in telephonic contact with Zardari and had called him many times during the past month. He was confronted by the state department officials who demanded explanation from the US ambassador on his actions and advised him against freely speaking to Asif Ali Zardari.

It is still not known whether the Zalmay Khalilzad would be facing any disciplinary action.

The word about Zalmay having unauthorized contact came to light when Mr. Zardari himself enlightened Mr. Boucher on this subject during his visit to Pakistan. Mr. Zalmay had also planned to meet Asif Ali Zardari in Dubai but the plan was canceled due to intervention of the US State department officials.

Mr. Boucher, it is learnt has sent a personal e-mail to Mr. Zalmay asking for the reason, nature and type of contact Mr. Zalmay was maintaining with the Pakistani political leader. Copies of Mr. Boucher’s email has been circulated to other top US State department officials.
