Carrollton, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — Over the past couple of months, headlines from coast to coast were jam packed with stories of people across the nation who suffered will severe illnesses and even died from one of the largest outbreaks of foodborne illnesses in the U.S. in over a decade.

Now, the nation can breathe a sigh of relief as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now says that the salmonella outbreak that effected more than 1,440 people appears to have finally come to an end. According to a report by the Associated Press, a joint investigation was carried out by the CDC and the FDA which identified compelling evidence that the spicy jalapeno pepper was ” a major carrier of the bacteria, and that serrano peppers were also a carrier.”

The strain that caused the outbreak was a rare bacterium known as Salmonella Saintpaul. The CDC traced the debilitating strain back to a Texas produce distribution center as well as a farm in Mexico that grew peppers.

Following intense investigations, the probe was not able to identify any contaminated tomatoes, however “investigators say they cannot rule out that tomatoes might have been a carrier, particularly early on.”

More news to come on the end of the Salmonella outbreak as CaymanMama.com follows the story.
