Pakistan Political news - Zardari unfit for office of the President
2008-08-29 16:16:30 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - Pakistan News Top Stories News)Islamabad (UPI.com): For the health of the country and for the sake of dignity of the office of the President, Zardari must withdraw from the candidature of the President. The news appearing in British dailies and was carried by Pakistani TV news channels that Asif Ali Zardari has been reported to be mentally unfit. Zardari’s lawyers and doctors had also made comments to this effect which confirms the reports appearing in the media. This has shifted the focus from Mr. Asif Ali Zardari to his competitor former Supreme Court Chief Justice Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui, who is also a Presidential candidate.
Mr. Zardari had recently, through, the members of Pakistan Peoples Party requested Pakistan Muslim League (N) to withdraw Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui’s nomination papers as PML-N is fielding Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui as their Presidential candidate.
The PML-Q secretary general, Mushahid Hussain Syed has requested Mr. Zardari to step down and withdraw from contesting for Presidency. He said that “I feel it would be in the interests of Pakistan, democracy and the Pakistan People’s Party that this office (of president) remains above controversy and I would humbly request Mr. Zardari that he should withdraw his candidature in the supreme national interest and in interest of democratic stability.”
However, Prime Minister, Yusuf Raza Gilani while speaking to newsmen today at Karachi airport has confirmed that Mr. Zardari will contest the September 6, 2008 presidential elections.
