2 million evacuated from Louisiana – Gustav loses strength

Washington: After the devastating effects left by hurricane Katrina, preparation for avoiding the wrath of Gustav left the town of Louisiana practically empty. Around 2 million people fled from homes leaving the town in the hands of armored policemen and National Guards. Gustav had lost its strength when it made landfall on late Monday morning.

Anbar, first Sunni province of Iraq handed back to Iraqis

Ramadi (AFP): The US transferred the Sunni province of Anbar to the Iraqis yesterday. The province was once a volatile battlefield of Sunny Iraqis against the US and then was the stronghold of Al-Qaeda.

Up till now US has handed over 11 out of 18 provinces back to Iraqis. The handing over ceremony took place in the provincial capital of Ramadi

Russians seeks arms embargo for Georgia

Moscow (AP): The Russia’s foreign minister has spoken out against the strategy of the US, Europe and other western countries for supporting the Georgian President by saying “If instead of choosing their national interests and the interests of the Georgian people, the United States and its allies choose the Saakashvili regime, this will be a mistake of truly historic proportions.”

He said that an arms embargo should be placed on Georgia until there is a change in the government.

Indian state of Bihar fights with flood

Madhepura (AFP): The Indian state of Bihar is fighting against floods. The authorities have reached out to help out millions of people yet 500,000 people are still stranded in flood waters with food and fresh drinking water.

Heart patients with failing heart condition survival rate higher after taking Omega 3
