Dallas, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — The fad has taken over America and it is becoming more than a trend–it is becoming a way of life. Going “green” isn’t just for tree huggers and environmentalists anymore. After the “Al Gore Movement” when the wave of enlightenment took over the nation exposing the harmful steps that our world has taken to break down the ozone and the environment, many began to wonder: how do we go green?
The first easiest thing to do to go green is unplug all appliances, cell phone chargers and computers when not in use. If you do not wish to unplug your computer, it is recommended to plug your PC into a surge protector which will conserve power. Doing this can also help you see a savings on your electric bill each month. After this greenie began unplugging everything in the house which was not in use, she saw a savings of $100 on her next month’s energy bill!
Clean air is maintenanced. Remember to regularly change out your AC filters, insulate water heaters, and do other easy maintenance tasks to maximize energy savings.
Use less water. If you do not already have a bathroom toilet that is a water saver, simply fill a two liter bottle with water and place inside your tank. This will make your tank fill faster and will fool your toilet into thinking it has filled completely, thereby using half of the water it normally uses to flush. Always wash full loads of laundry in cool water–preferably tap water. If you must use hot water, rinse your clothes in cold. Skip on the baths and take shorter, cooler showers instead. (Think Power Shower) Remember to turn off the water when you brush your teeth and wash your face. Nearly two gallons of water is wasted if you let the water run!
Simply by being more aware of your surroundings and being “conservative” you can not only help the environment and reduce your carbon footprint, you can also enjoy monthly savings on your energy and water bills.
