Prom Night Movie Review -CaymanMama

(Dallas, Texas- CaymanMama) What happens when you mix an outdated concept, average actors, an unmasked killer, a high school dance, and a PG-13 rating? No, I am not talking about a Disney Channel movie, but in fact a mild slasher flick, called ‘Prom Night.’ It surprises me that, although the film got horrible reviews, it was number 2 at the Box Office for quite some time. This slasher flick is now available to own on and Unrated Edition Blu-Ray Disc.

Cast & Crew:

Brittany Snow
Johnathon Schaech
Jana Kramer
Brianne Davis
Directed by: Nelson McCormick

The Plot:

In her freshman year, Donna Keppel, watched an obsessive killer murder her family, and eventually end up in prison. Four years later, on what is supposed to be the most cherished night of senior year, the killer returns to take his vengeance. While the plot seems interesting, its execution is very immature. Great slasher flicks such as ‘Scream’, ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’, and ‘I know what you did last summer’ worked at the Box office because of the ‘masked killer’. In prom night, you see the killers face the whole time, which honestly makes it a lot less frightening. Besides this, all of the action scenes just make it look like a bad theatrical episode of ‘Law & Order’. As for performances, all besides the lead, Brittany Snow, fail.

Blu-Ray Features

Being an avid ‘Blu-Ray Disc’ fan, I often like to rent or buy the latest movies out on BD just to see how amazing the picture and sound is. While it may not be an ‘Oscar-Worthy’ film, it does indeed succeed, in that the graphics are crystal clear and breath taking. Sound is another plus point. The film comes with many extra features, including:

Deleted Scenes
Alternate Ending
Bloopers
Profile of a Killer
Making of
Audio Commentary
BD Live
Pop-Up Menus

Overall

While it is not a superb film, if you have a teenager at home who wants to watch horror movies, but simply is not ready for a ‘Rated R’ flick, rent them Prom Night. Otherwise, rent the 1980’s version, I am sure you will get more chills out of that!

Film: C+
Sound Quality: A+
Graphics: A
Special Features: B-
