Asif Ali Zardari elected as New President of Pakistan

Zardari had pledged to the United States about the role of Pakistan in the war against terror. He had also confirmed to his political allies that he will do away with article 51(2)B and the 17 amendment that forbids politicians from becoming the Prime Minister for the third time.
Islamabad (CaymanMama.com) - - Asif Ali Zardari has finally been elected as the President of Pakistan today. According to the unofficial results announced by the election commission of Pakistan, Zardari bagged 281 votes. Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui secured 111 and Mushahid Hussain got 34 votes.
Zardari, widower of slain Benazir Bhutto, is the controversial political figure of the country and does not carry vast experience of working as political figurehead of a political party.
In the Provincial assemblies too, Zardari swept the floor. In the Sindh provincial assembly he received 162 out 166 votes. In NWFP he secured 107 out of 124 votes. Baluchistan assembly too voted in favor of Mr. Zardari from where he received 59 out of 63 votes. The results from Punjab assembly are still awaited. Though without counting 65 votes of the Punjab assembly, Zardari has bagged in 458 votes from the electoral college of 702 votes which gives him a clear lead over his opponents.
Zardari will be taking oath as the President of Pakistan soon to assume the position of the all to powerful president of the country, with the powers Musharraf has selected for himself, that is, the power to dissolve the National assembly - the Article 51 (2)B, the Article 17 of the constitution and will also become the supreme commander of the armed forces.
Will Mr. Zardari do as he has promised his fellow politician to attain the position of the nation’s head? The nation has yet to see that does Mr. Zardari uses his powers or misuses them for his own benefits.
