Google, T-Mobile makes “Dream”s come true

Dallas, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — If it doesn’t already seem as though Google is taking over the planet in almost all aspects of daily life, yet another story is emerging about another Google venture that includes cellular powerhouse T-Mobile.

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, T-Mobile USA has exciting new plans to begin selling the first smartphone aptly called “Dream,” to be powered by information giant Google’s new mobile software, Android, in late Ocotober. The “Dream” phone will be an innovative blend of both the Apple iPhone and Research In Motion’s Blackberry by combining useful features of both gadgets.

In spite of the fact that other wireless companies who are also working with Google’s Android mobile software have hit setbacks and time delays, the T-Mobile phone moving along right on schedule. According to the WSJ, “The phone’s manufacturer, HTC Corp., forecasts sales that are rosier than analysts’ estimates. HTC says it expects to ship 600,000 to 700,000 units of the smart phone, dubbed the Dream, this year, a person close to the situation said Monday. The target exceeds analysts’ estimates of 300,000 to 500,000.”

T-Mobile will likely announce the “Dream” phone on September 23rd as per people who are familiar with the matter. The device is scheduled to arrive in stores as soon as the end of October though the phone’s pricing is not yet determined. The initial Android-based phone has erupted a flurry of anticipation and it feels the heat to impress. The FCC granted authorization for the device which will allow T-Mobile to market it.

Although the target demographic who will likely purchase the device is the same of as those tech-savvy customers who scooped up the iPhone, it has been tweaked to stand out all its own. The “Dream” is said to be heavier than the iPhone and toting “a large touch screen, a swivel-out full keyboard and a BlackBerry-style trackball to help with navigation.”

T-Mobile USA is joining forces with Google in this new venture by introducing the high-profile device in its endeavor to enhance its network nationwide to support third-generation broadband services just the same as the Apple iPhone has done.
