US financial market bailout plan - bipartisan consensus reached

Washington (Agencies): The democrats and the republicans agreed on the $700 billion bailout plan for the ailing financial industry. The bailout plan would be finalized and resented to the administration within few days.

Chinese astronauts gear up for their first walk in space

Jiuquan (AFP): Shenzhou VII spacecraft was successfully sent into space by Juiquan Satellite Center in northwest China at 9:10 pm carrying 3 men into the orbit. Their mission includes first space walk as stated by country’s media. The Chinese president, Hu Jintao and other senior leaders were present at the occasion.

Bush meets Abbas - expresses hope for early middle east peace deal

Washington (AFP): Palestinian President Abbas met the US President in New York. Both the leaders met and expressed their hope for an early ME peace deal. The Palestinian leader expressed that the Palestinians remained hopeful for their own independent state. He said, “Hope will remain, Mr President. We cannot live without hope. We will continue to work to achieve and realize that hope.”

One of the nine million pounds note to be auctioned

London (Dawn): One million pounds note that was issued by the Treasury on August 30, 1948 after the second world war will be auctioned next month. The million pound note, which is no longer legal tender, is expected to fetch 40,000 pounds.

Guantanamo Bay - Military prosecutor quits on foul play

Guantanamo Bay (AP): A military prosecutor at the military prison has quit on the grounds that his office suppressed the evidence that could clear a young Afghan from the charges that had been levied against him. The chief prosecutor however denied that his office had withheld any such evidence.
