From the big screen to the courtroom - Erin Brockovich working for NYC personal injury law firm

Manhattan, New York (CaymanMama.com) — An environmentally charged film in 2000 starring Julia Roberts as the powerhouse-in-heels Erin Brockovich not only earned the film an Oscar, it made Brockovich a national celebrity as a legal crusader who won a 1996 victory in a water pollution case for the residents of Hinkley, a small California desert town. The award came in at a hefty $333 million settlement paid to the illness-stricken residents from the deep pockets of a state utility company.
Now, some eight years after the film was released, Brockovich, 48, continues to fight for the rights of victims and is now is putting her extensive skills to use working for a Manhattan personal injury law firm that specializes in asbestos cases. In a recent report from the Associated Press, Brockovich has signed on as a consultant with the firm of Weitz & Luxenberg and will be involved in soliciting cases and investigating claims.
Weitz & Luxenberg is the largest plaintiffs’ firms in New York and will benefit from Brockovich’s ability to connect with the public to help victims of asbestos, toxic dumping, dangerous drugs and other acts of negligence the firm takes on in its extensive practice. She told the New York Post, “I’m hands-on and they’re hands-on so it will be a team effort.”
Co-founder of the firm Arthur Luxenberg said in a press release, “The public shares a unique bond with Erin because they can relate to her real-life battle against a corporation that effectively poisoned a community’s groundwater. We knew there was no better partner who would add depth, value and passion to our work.”
Having begun her success as a single mom of two children living a hard knocks life, Brockovich is now living the good life having filmed two television commercials for her firm seeking victims of lung cancer as a result of asbestos, as reported by the Daily News. She is also a consultant for the West Coast law firm of Girardi & Keese.
