Karachi: The eve of September 30, 2008 turned out to be the last day of fasting as the announcement of sighting of the new moon marking the end of holy month of Ramzan and the beginning of Shawal brought new life to the Muslim of the country. The moon sighting committee though announced that the moon was not sighted in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and other cities made a late night announcement saying that moon was sighted in the remote areas of Badin and Mardan and as such Eid would be celebrated on the first of October.

As soon as the news of sighting of the moon the released from the official sources, people flocked to the markets to buy stuff and complete their last minute arrangement that would complete their religious festivities.

The major roads and streets were jam packed with cars and late night shoppers. Markets, shopping malls and shops in the residential areas were open till early morning hours of the first day of October. All major markets pulled down their shutters at the Fajar time (early morning prayers).

Muslim all over the country celebrated Eid amidst scare of terrorists threats. The dulled festive occasion was however celebrated with religious fever and people thronged to the prayer centers to offer Thanks giving prayers.
