Pakistanis offer Eid prayers amid tight security
Islamabad: The security agencies issued notification barring holding of Eid prayers in the open amidst threats sent by the militant of possible suicide bomb attacks during Eid prayers. The government thus requested the organizers of Eid congregations to hold Eid prayers in covered and closed places like mosques. All the cities of Pakistan were placed on Red Alert in wake of threats received from terrorists
US affirms respect of Pakistan’s sovereignty - pledges more support in fight against terror
Washington: The Pakistani and the US administration officials concluded their talks with US assuring the Pakistani side for all out co-operation by the US towards war on terror and helping Pakistan with full training and support to fight insurgency. The statement issued by the US said “the United States affirmed its support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity.”
The statement further confirmed that “The United States is dedicated to providing Pakistan with the training and equipment it needs to fight terrorism, including support to enhance Pakistan’s counterinsurgency and counter terrorism capabilities and increased cooperation with Pakistani security forces.”
$500 million loan by Asian Development Bank approved to meet Pakistan’s requirements
Rawalpindi: A loan of US $500 million was approved by the Asian Development Bank to help Pakistan through for supporting the depleting economy. The press release issued by the bank said “ADB’s support balances the need for addressing the needs of Pakistan’s people while reassuring markets that the government is on the right track with its ongoing economic stabilization program.”
Pakistani leaders to visit China in October
Islamabad: The Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Pakistani President will be visiting China this month. The official tour of the President starts on October 14 and the Prime Minister of Pakistan Yusuf Raza Gilani will be joining him on the 23th of the month. The Pakistani PM will attend 2 days Seventh Asia Europe Summit due to be held from 24th of the month. During his stay in Beijing the PM will be meeting Chinese government officials.
Pakistan to get 750,000 tons of wheat on deferred payments from Canada
Islamabad: The Canadian government has promised to give 750,000 tons of wheat to Pakistan on deferred payments. This fact was disclosed in the meeting chaired by the Minister of Finance, Privatization and Investment Syed Naveed Qamar with the Economic Monitoring Committee.
