Political dialogue is the only means to restore peace in Afghanistan - UN finally concedes for adapting non military means
Kabul: The UN’s top official said that UN would support non military means and would seek possible solution through political means and through dialogue. In a statement the UN envoy to Afghanistan said “I’ve always said to those that talk about the military surge … what we need most of all is a political surge, more political energy.”
While Taliban has repeatedly rejected the idea for a dialogue until all the foreign troops leave their country, the Taliban spokesman told the news agency that “As we said before, as long as the invading forces are in Afghanistan, we won’t participate in any negotiations.”
Afghan reconciliation program get US support
Washington: According to the media reports, the US has shown its inclination for supporting return of Taliban to take over the government in Afghanistan only if Taliban cut their relationship with Al-Qaeda.
CNN reports that Taliban have agreed to dump Al-Qaeda, the terrorist group that is, according to the US responsible for 9/11 attack. The state department official said “We’re very supportive of an Afghan reconciliation program, And, in fact, the Afghan government has outlined criteria for that program, which we fully support, one of which is renouncing violence, the second, adherence to the constitution.”
Sri Lankan opposition leader dies in suicide bomb attack
Colombo (AFP): In a fresh wave of suicide bomb attack, the Tamil tigers killed over 27 people. and injured over 80. The suicide bomber blew himself inside the main offices of the opposition party, resultantly killing the opposition leader.
Recession inevitable - global markets nosedive
New York: The trading was halted and the government and the central banks gasped as the global markets nosedived on Monday. The investors foresee that the recession was inevitable with Dow Industrial loosing 764.38 points fall down below 10,000 mark to 9,561.00. The lowest since November 2003.
Afghanistan’s former Prime Minister protected by Iran
Madrid (AFP) The Spanish Radio Cadena Ser, released a confidential military report that claims that Gulbaddin Hekmatyar, who claimed responsibility of killing 10 French soldiers receive security through Iran. He had been living in a hotel in Tehran and had ‘total freedom.’ The Iranian government provided him complete security.
