Google to fuse video games and AdSense

Hartford, Connecticut (CaymanMama.com) — Google Inc. seems to be taking over the world as a leader in online searches and advertising. In a new venture for the online giant, Google will now be taking on the video game industry by launching a new beta version of “AdSense for Games”.
The new technology is designed to show relevant advertising in web-based video games. In a recent article by the Associated Press, Google’s expansion of the AdSense strategy–which correlates advertisements to the content of web sites–will display ad that are related to a particular video game. An example of the AdSense for Games is ads that are aimed at young men and male athletes will be displayed on sports and action games. The ads will be in the form of videos that the gamers would view prior to or after a game, or after completing a level.
According to AP, AdSense in Games allows Google to be able to offer advertisers “yet another place” to reach customers, said Christian Oestlien, senior product manager at the Mountain View, Calif.-based company.
Google’s long-anticipated introduction into the gaming empire has been a topic of conversation and could help the company to avoid any fall in online advertising as a result of the economic crisis. In early 2007, Google acquired Adscape Media, a small in-game advertising company, less than a year after Microsoft Corp. bought in-game ad company Massive Inc.
Google isn’t the first to pioneer this video game advertisement move. Rival search engine Yahoo Inc. already has programs in place by offering ad-supported, downloadable games. In addition, two in-game advertising companies, Double Fusion and NeoEdge, are selling video ads integrated into games.
Still, Google’s entrance into video game ads is a milestone to the company as a whole and will enhance their online portfolio.
