India to send first unmanned rocket to the moon on October 22nd
New Delhi (Reuters) First unmanned moon mission of India is set to begin by October 22, this year. The project that cost India $ 80.8 million. The US and six other countries are directly involved in the project. The rocket being launched by India is aimed to map 3 dimensional atlas of the moon.
India further plans to send astronaut into space on 2014 and first manned mission to the moon in 2020.
Spent fuel being returned to the US on security concerns
Washington (AP): Following the footsteps of 27 countries that returned 1,179 kgs of US origin fuel in 45 shipments, Germany also returned over 9 kilograms of highly enriched uranium fuel to the United States for safekeeping. More than 52 kilograms of spent fuel had been returned to the United States by Argentina, Romania, Germany and Portugal last year.
Filipino’s enraged by humiliating comedy from BBC
Manila (AFP): The BBC’s comedy show went overboard. In the episode of ‘Harry and Paul’ the show portrayed negative image of Filipinos. The congresswoman said that she was angered by the sketch in which the comedian was trying to get White House to ‘mate’ with his Filipina maid.
Stern warning of possible military action against Kurdish rebels issued by the Turkish PM
Ankara (AFP): Turkish PM has issued strict warning that Turkish forces might launch offensive against the Kurdish rebels in Iraq. He clarified that the target of the forces would be the Kurds and not the Iraqi forces nor the Iraqi civilians. The PM said “ The sole target of a possible cross-border operation will be the terrorist organization,” Erdogan told lawmakers from his ruling party, referring to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)”
Qantas’s reputation tarnished by Mid air incident that left 40 people injured
Perth (AFP): The sudden change of altitude by the aircraft during its flight from Singapore to Perth has depleted the image of the airline for being the safest airline in the world. The reasons for the sudden change in altitude have still not been cited. The incident left 40 people injured.
