Hartford, Connecticut (CaymanMama.com) — Even spiritual leaders can fall ill, no matter how strong their faith or healthy their body may be.

In an unfortunate story from the AFP on Thursday, the Dalai Lama has been hospitalized due to abdominal pain and my need to undergo surgery on Friday, according to a senior doctor. However, the Dalai Lama’s spokesperson tried to ease worries and insisted that he was simply undergoing “routine tests.”

The Buddhist monk and respected spiritual leader was admitted to a New Delhi hospital today following reports that the pains in his abdomen which had him under the care of a Mumbai hospital in August had come back.

A senior doctor at New Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, who did not wish to be identified, told AFP, “He was admitted when he complained of abdominal pain and now chances are that the Dalai Lama will be operated upon, most probably tomorrow (Friday).”

The hospital chief declined to comment on the state of the Dalai Lama’s health or elaborate on the treatment that he would receive, but the Press Trust of India also said the surgery would most likely be conducted on Friday.

However, the Dalai Lama’s spokesperson persisted in dismissing the report of surgery and insisted that the issue was merely “routine tests.”It seems no one wishes to speak outright but all are concerned about the highly respected monk.

A former Nobel peace Prize winner, the Dalai Lama is expected to return to his home-in-exile in northern India on Thursday, “but spokesman Tenzin Takhla told AFP that the 73-year-old would now remain in hospital at least until Saturday.”

“There is nothing to worry about as His Holiness is undergoing routine tests for which he had to be hospitalised,” Takhla said.

CaymanMama.com extends our well wishes to the Dalai Lama and send him our hopes for a speedy recovery.
