Hollywood, California (CaymanMama.com) — From the magazine covers to the tabloid television shows, it would appear that all of Hollywood extending into New York City are pulling for Illinois Senator Barack Obama to become the next president of the United States in next month’s elections.

Seasoned actor and director Dennis Hopper said on Monday that he is hoping against all odds that Barack will take the title and lead the nation to change and a positive future. Hopper is perhaps best known for the 1969 road-movie “Easy Rider” and for the bomb-happy villian in the 1994 nail-biter “Speed”.

“I voted for Bush, father and son, but this time I’ll vote for Obama,” Hopper told the media during the opening of a show on his life and work at the Paris cinematheque.

According to the AFP, Hopper is expected to be handed France’s order of Commander of Arts and Letters by the culture minister later today.

“I was the first person in my family to have been Republican,” he added. “For most of my life I wasn’t on the left.”

A formerly staunch Republican, Hopper is now considering switching sides after Democrat Barack Obama took the time to honor his late mother. According to news reports, Hopper’s wife Victoria Duffy is a fan of Obama and insisted that Hopper accompany her to a rally when the senator announced his bid to run for The White House.

Having been impressed by Obama’s forward-thinking and positive plan for change, Hopper joined his wife at early campaign dates and one day, found himself in an elevator with Obama at one rally.

According to StarPulse.com, “Hopper recalls, “My mother had died three months before and my wife had obviously mentioned something to Obama. I only met him a couple of times before and he turned to me in this crowded elevator and said, ‘I’m so sorry to hear about your mother.’ He said, ‘I know your mother is from Kansas and so is mine. I didn’t have an opportunity to give you condolences but you have my sympathy.’ I thought, ‘In the middle of this day with all this stuff going on, you have the presence of mind to turn to me in this crowded elevator and say that - that is really remarkable.’ That’s somebody who has great humanity and (somebody) who has presence of mind - important qualities for a president.”

Criticizing the current administrations flubs on the truth and state of the world and economy, Hopper continued, “I pray God, Barack Obama is elected.”

As a respected thespian, Hopper will be honored with an exhibition of his life which will include films as well as paintings and photographs, and works from his own art collection, including pieces by Andre Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg and Roy Lichtenstein.
