Madonna and Guy Ritchie divorce after nearly eight years

Hollywood power couple Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie to divorce after almost eight years.
Los Angeles, California (CaymanMama.com) — In the life of Hollywood marriages, eight years seems like an eternity. Still, even power names in the industry are not immune to divorces and Madonna is one of the casualties.
In a new report by the Associated Press, the Material Girl and her filmmaker husband, Guy Ritchie, will dissolve their marriage after nearly eight years, the couple said in a joint statement Wednesday.
Madonna and Ritchie asked the media to “maintain respect for their family at this difficult time,” in a statement e-mailed to The Associated Press by Liz Rosenberg, Madonna’s publicist.
There are many outstanding issues that the couple must resolve including a financial settlement and the tough decision of child custody. Speaking from London, Ritchie’s mother, Lady Amber Leighton, told the media that the family would not be making a statement on the matter.
Madonna and Ritchie took their vows in December 2000 at a Scottish castle that caused a big media circus. The couple have two children: Rocco, 8, and David Banda, 3, an adopted boy from Malawi in 2006. Madonna also has a daughter, Lourdes, 12, from a previous marriage.
“The couple are reportedly worth some $525 million, the bulk of that belonging to Madonna. Ritchie has an estimated $35 million fortune. They own homes in London, Los Angeles and New York, and a 1,200-acre retreat in Wiltshire, England.”
David Allison, a lawyer with Family Law in Partnership, a London firm explained, “The judgment of the court would be to try and assess what they came in with and divide what they built up fairly equally.”
