Democrats dominate early voting in key states; Obama in the lead so far
Atlanta, Georgia (CaymanMama.com) — The Democratic party is dominating during the early voting taking place in the six key states which George W. Bush won starting off his first term. This is now forcing John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, to play a fast game of catch-up leading up to Election Day.
According to the Associated Press, Democrats are outnumbering their counterparts among early voters in Nevada, Iowa, North Carolina, New Mexico, Florida and Colorado.
These numbers come from the latest statistics from election and party officials in the respective states. In the last election, President Bush won all six states. This means McCain must win most of them to become the new American president.
Although voters can cross party lines to vote, no vote totals will be formally announced until Election Day. However, current stats flowing in from polling stations are indicating that Obama is in the lead albeit narrowly.
It must be mentioned that there is no way to tell how the polls will sway until Nov. 4 Election Day. It has been said that there has never been a bigger turn out of American voters in early voting as there have been for this election.
People are coming out in droves to vote. In Florida, for instance, the lines to vote have grown so long that Gov. Charlie Crist signed an executive order Tuesday extending early voting hours.
According to statistics compiled by Michael P. McDonald, a political scientist at George Mason University, more than 15 million voters have already cast ballots.
“This is off the charts in some of these states,” McDonald said. “They already have record turnout (among early voters) in some states.”
