IMF - Pakistan discussion on economic stabilization fund concludes
Washington: The meeting between the IMF and Pakistan ended yesterday. The discussion on the rescue package to help Pakistan to avert its present economic meltdown started on the 21st of this month.Pakistan will now make a formal request to the International monetary fund within a weeks time. IMF in turn will need a week to finalize the Pakistan bailout package with its board and would be ready with the offer, if the IMF so decides just 2 days before the Friends of Pakistan meet in UAE on the 17th of November.
FIA gets more strength - NAB disarmed
Peshawar: The government of Pakistan reversed the powers snatched from its Federal Investigation Agency which were entrusted to the National Accountability Bureau by the Musharraf government. The list of people transferred from the FIA to NAB has been prepared and the possibility of transferring them back to FIA is being discussed. These NAB officials were transferred to NAB from FIA’s Anti corruption and Economic Crimes section.
Balushistan earthquake - death toll rises over 300
Quetta: The devastating earthquake that struck Baluchistan 2 days ago have claimed lives of over 300. Unofficial sources claim that the number of dead is well over 400 people. Thousands of people are homeless. The earthquake gutted 200 homes and 30 villages in Ziarat. Aid from different social organizations and from the government have started reaching the troubled area.
Iran ready to give Pakistan oil on deferred payments
Islamabad: The Pakistani government, in the wake of seeing through the financial crises is following up it request put forward to Iran for supply of oil on deferred payments. The Pakistan government official, while to taking to the news paper said “Iran is willing to accede to our request, which would be followed up forcefully if Saudi Arabia did not agree to grant the oil facility.”
Friends of Pakistan to meet on November 17, 2008
Abu Dhabi: Friends of Pakistan will be meeting in Abu Dhabi on the the 17th of November 2008 to discuss and chalk out a plan to bail out Pakistan from the current financial crises. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed al-Nahayan spoke to media about the importance of the meeting and said
“It will be important for the Friends group to act quickly to shield Pakistan from the worsening impact of the financial crisis.”
