Miranshah: More than 20 people died in the double attack by the US in the North and the South of Waziristan last night. Official reports add that a mid level Al-Qaeda leader, an Iraqi national named Abu Akash was killed in the attack.

Islamabad: The government yesterday announced much awaited reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel yesterday. Rs. 5/- per liter was slashed on Petrol and Diesel price was reduced by Rs. 4/- per liter. The official said, “This is the first POL prices adjustment after the subsidy on oil products was completely erased. Now from onwards, the government will be bound to fully pass on the impacts of the prices of oil fluctuations in the international market to end consumers.”

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari will be leaving for Saudi Arabia on the 4th of November 2008 to hold talk with King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz and seek his support during the Friends of Pakistan meeting that is due to start in the Mid of November 2008. The foreign office during the briefing to the newsmen said “Our bilateral trade stands at around US$5.7 billion. Over a million strong Pakistani community is living in Saudi Arabia and is contributing towards the progress and development of the Kingdom.”
Quake exposes 70,000 people including 30,000 children at health risk
Wam (Baluchistan): The quake has left over 70,000 people homeless. This number includes 30,000 children who are exposed to the deadly diseases which are spreading due to lack of health and sanitation facilities. UNICEF officials, on Friday, said “With winter closing in, the most urgent needs of the survivors are shelter, safe drinking water, food, warm clothing and emergency medical assistance.”
Pakistan agrees to cut developmental and non developmental expenditure
Islamabad: In order to seek the IMF facility Pakistan authorities have agreed to cut down the developmental and non developmental expenditures and to bring the agriculture, service sector and Capital markets of Pakistan under tax net. Mr. Shaukat Tareen, advisor to the PM on Finance said that the defense expenses could not be brought down as the country is at war on its western boarders. He said, “If the armed forces keep their expenditures within the envisaged allocated amount for this fiscal year, it will be a great achievement on their part.”
