President Bush has been noticeably absent in the public eye as election day approaches and that strategy is by design

Baltimore, Maryland (CaymanMama.com) — Perhaps under a matter of strategy, President Bush has been noticeably absent in the public eye as election day approaches and that is just how the Republican party wants it.

According to a recent article by the Associated Press, White House press secretary Dana Perino said Monday Bush’s absence is “by design” — because “the Republican Party wanted to make this election about John McCain.”

Perino added that the American public wants change and are looking for something out of the ordinary–hence the president’s strategy of keeping under the radar. “We’re realistic about the political environment that we are in,” she said. “What keeps him going is knowing that he’s done the right thing.”

To date, Bush’s approval rate is steadily low–and declining. Currently, Bush has a meager 26 percent approval rating. That said, Bush has seldom appeared in television ads and only appeared in a Democratic TV ad tying him to the Republican candidate.

Since Bush’s public endorsed of McCain on March 5, the Republican duo has only appeared in public three times for a total of 12 minutes. Additoinally, Perino indicated that the last time the two communicated was before Bush’s Cabinet meeting held on October 15.

As the 2008 presidential elections wind to a close, Bush has spent his final hours as America’s president at the Camp David retreat. He has no plans for public events or a photo op with the new president on Election Day.
