Tony Fadell, chief of Apple’s iPod division, is stepping down from his longtime executive position.
Rochester, New York (CaymanMama.com) — Never a stranger to the headlines, Apple Inc. is in the news today as news comes that the company confirmed on Tuesday that Tony Fadell, chief of Apple’s iPod division, is stepping down from his longtime executive position.
According to CNET, Fadell’s replacement will be Mark Papermaster, who previously held the title of vice president for IBM. Fadell “will join Apple as senior vice president of devices, responsible for the company’s iPod and iPhone hardware-engineering teams, Apple said.”
Reports were wildly circulated in the week prior to the decision that Papermaster was preparing to leave IBM for a “prominent position” at Apple, however his exact title and projected responsibilities were unknown at the time.
As somewhat of a family affair, Fadell will stay at Apple serving as CEO Steve Jobs’ adviser while Fadell’s wife, Danielle Lambert, is expected to relinquish her position of vice president of human resources at the end of 2008, after a successor is found. Apple said that Lambert will then leave the company.
“Mark is a seasoned leader and is going to be an excellent addition to our senior management team,” Jobs said in a statement on Tuesday. A statement by Apple Inc. said that both executives are “reducing their roles within the company as they devote more time to their young family.”
