Chicago (LATimes): Victory of Barack Obama, the 47 year old first ever Black President of the US proves that the US has leaped forward in its march towards equality. Obama in his speech to 240,000 people gathered to celebrate Obama’s victory, the new President elect said, “If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.”
Interfaith dialogue opened by Vatican
Vatican City (AFP): Top Muslim leader are participating in the inter-faith talks in Vatican City. The Muslim side of the delegation is led by Mufti of Bosnia, Mustafa Ceric, the delegation includes Tunisian academic Adnane Mokrani and a Swiss intellectual Tariq Ramadan and other Muslim figures from Europe and Middle East while the 29 member Catholic delegation is headed by Cardinal Jean Louis Tauran.
Omar Osama bin Laden seeks asylum in Spain
Madrid (AP): Osama Bin Laden’s 27 years old son Omar along with his British wife arrived in Madrid and requested asylum. He was refused residency in Britain on the grounds that he had shown continuing loyalty to his father.
India lawmaker’s son arrested for raping a teenaged German girl
Panaji (AFP): The son of India’s Education Minister Atanasio Monserrte, was arrested after he turned himself to the authorities. He is charged with raping and mentally abusing the 14 years old German girl.
The lawmaker vowed that he will do everything to prove that his son is innocent and that all charges against him are politically motivated. The Indian police had previously advised the German lady (mother of the raped girl) no to file the case against the ministers son.
Obama will destroy America - not rebuilt it - Vladimir Zhirinovsky
Moscow (AFP): Russian nationalist, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, said yesterday that, “Obama, he is the American Gorbachev, he will destroy America, it will not be rebuilt.” He was speaking to Interfax News agency while he compared Obama to Gorbachev who took away Soviet Union from Cold War confrontation and for the hard economic reforms that lead to the collapse of Soviet Union.
