Obama gives first press conference speaking on state of the economy

Washington D.C. (CaymanMama.com) — The new President-elect, Barack Obama gave his first carefully calculated press conference on Friday.

During the news conference, Obama said the economic hardships that the vast majority of Americans are suffering from are an “urgent reminder” that the nation’s leaders must act quickly to stabilize the financial industry.

Strategically drafted, Obama’s speech was given as he was surrounded by his growing group of economic advisers.

During the conference, Obama noted that he has asked his transition team to work specifically on some concepts to aid the sagging auto industry.

Rep. Rahm Emanuel, the newly appointed White House chief of staff, was among the 17-member council of economic advisers standing next to Obama, along with former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker and Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

Obama had a serious demeanor as the said the U.S. is facing “the greatest economic challenge of our lifetime” and called for Congress to pass a new stimulus package.

“I do not underestimate the enormity of the task that lies ahead,” Obama told reporters at the Hilton Hotel. “We have taken some major action to date and we will take further action.”
