Urgent recall issued for an infant gas drop from Johnson & Johnson-Merck Consumer Pharmaceuticals Company
Hartford, Connecticut (CaymanMama.com) — A breaking news report by Reuters said that Johnson & Johnson Merck Consumer Pharmaceuticals Company (JJMPC) issued an urgent and voluntary nationwide recall on Monday of approximately 12,000 units of infants’ Mylicon Gas Relief Dye Free drops.
The reason for the recall is due to possible metal fragments that may have been included in 1 oz. plastic bottles that were distributed after October 5, 2008. The company took immediate action after consultation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
JJMPC noted that although the potential for serious medical issues is low, they are going forward with the recall at the consumer level as a precaution since many batches may have been affected during the manufacturing process.
The company advises that parents who have administered the product to their child and are concerned about a problem with the drops should contact their health care provider immediately.
JJMPC encourages consumers to contact the company at 1-800-222-9435 (Monday — Friday, 8:00 a.m. — 8:00 p.m. EST) or via the internet at http://www.mylicon.com for instructions regarding how to dispose of the product and request a replacement or refund.
