Idol Gives Back Raises $64 Million for Charity

Los Angeles, California (CaymanMama.com) — America’s biggest talent show, American Idol, has made it a point to not only give hope to singers across the nation, the show has also developed a charity foundation that gives back to people all over the world.

In a recent report by Us Magazine, American Idol will donate a staggering $64 million to charities following the Idol Gives Back special in April.

Idol Gives Back is quite a star-studded event with such Hollywood heavyweights as Brad Pitt and Reese Witherspoon.

The funds will go toward six U.S. and international charities: The Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria; Malaria No More; Children’s Health Fund; U.S. programs of Save the Children; Children’s Defense Fund; and Make It Right, Pitt’s campaign to help New Orleans recover and rebuild from Hurricane Katrina.

In a statement to the press, Idol creator and executive producer Simon Fuller said, “The fact that American Idol has the ability to inspire millions, create hope and change lives is simply remarkable. We are extremely thankful to our viewers, sponsors and outstanding talent who continue to motivate each and every one of us to contribute to those who need it the most.”

In the initial year of Idol Gives Back, the fundraiser raised over $75 million in donations from both the general public and major American corporations. The show’s producers have yet to announce if the 8th season of America Idol will dedicate a show to fundraising again.
