“Bigotry manifested in Islamophobia and anti-Semitism must be combated” - Zardari
New York: “Islam is about serving the Muslim masses by ending poverty and backwardness and building peace and tolerance. As such we reach out to all of God’s creations.” said Asif Ali Zardari during his speech to the leader of 66 nations present in the United Nations national assembly session. He stressed on the need of cultivating tolerance between the religions and said “Dialogue, and not discord, between civilizations and faiths must be encouraged.”
Iranian attache kidnapped - security guard killed
Peshawar: Hashmatullah Attaarzadeh, the Iranian diplomate was kidnapped from Peshawar yesterday. His security guard was shot dead. This is the second such incident in the capital city of NWFP where a US aid worker and his Pakistani driver were shot dead. 3 gunmen intercepted the Iranian diplomate while he was going to his office near his residence in Hayatabad, NWFP.
Power tariff brought down to 13%
Islamabad: Instead of 31% increase in the power tariff, the government of Pakistan special committee revised the power tariff to 13%. The pulled down tariff will now bring some relief to the consumers. Hina Rabbani Khar, the head of the special committee had proposed 5% increase. The consumers will be billed according to the new tariff from the coming month.
Pakistani security forces and Taliban prepare for a final show down
Ghalanai: After suffering defeat in Bajaur agency, the militant have reportedly started regrouping in Mohmand Agency. According to the official reports ‘a large number of militants had converged on Mohmand after suffering heavy loses in Bajaur and were preparing for a showdown with security forces.’
Citing the threat security forces have enforced tight curfew in the area and have sealed off all roads.
Finally - movement in the stocks witnessed
Karachi: The news of removal of floor by next week pumped up some activity at the Karachi Stock Exchange yesterday. The stocks posted modest gain on 0.95 points taking the KSE-100 index to 9,184.09 points.
