Obama, McCain promise to work on D.C.’s ‘bad habits’

Obama McCain pledged Monday to work together on ways to change the U.S. government’s “bad habits”

Washington, D.C. (CaymanMama.com) — Even after President-elect Barack Obama triumphed Sen. John McCain in becoming the next American president, the former rivals vowed on Monday to work together to improve the practices and change Washington’s “bad habits”.

Aides to Obama and McCain said it was unlikely that the Republican senator would serve on Obama’s Cabinet.

The two men spoke at Obama’s transition headquarters in Chicago for the first time since the Nov. 4 election. Obama said they wanted to talk about “how we can do some work together to fix up the country.” Obama added his appreciation to McCain “for the outstanding service he’s already rendered.”

Obama has mentioned that he is likely to ask at least on Republican to join his Cabinet, however McCain is not expected to be that person. Currently, McCain serving his fourth term in the Senate.

When asked whether McCain planned to assist the Obama administration, the Arizonian senator replied, “Obviously.”

After the meeting, the men issued a joint statement saying: “At this defining moment in history, we believe that Americans of all parties want and need their leaders to come together and change the bad habits of Washington so that we can solve the common and urgent challenges of our time.”
