Equality wins over adversity as the Supreme Court of Canada rules in favor of obese airline passengers having the right to two seats for the price of one

Des Moines, Iowa (CaymanMama.com) — For years, obese people have fought the battle of the bulge and faced criticism about their size making it embarrassing and difficult to conduct business and live a normal life in public. Times are evolving and tolerance and acceptance are becoming more the norm.

According to a report by Reuters, one such change is happening for the better in Canada as the Supreme Court of Canada ruled on Thursday that obese airline passengers now have the right to two seats for the price of one on flights within the country.

The decision remained final in spite of the fact that Canadian airlines submitted an appeal to the Canadian Transportation Agency’s decision that those who are “functionally disabled by obesity” have a right to pay one fare for two seats.

“The airlines had lost an appeal at the Federal Court of Appeal in May and had sought to launch a fresh appeal at the Supreme Court. The court’s decision not to hear a new appeal means the one-person-one-fare policy stands.”

The airlines who were opposed to the ruling and attempted to appeal were Air Canada, Air Canada Jazz and WestJet.
