Michael Bloomberg will be launching a new green initiative focusing on the city’s theater district

New York City, New York (CaymanMama.com) — Another venture is going green and helping revive the earth from the downward spiral it is in.

According to a recent report on Reuters, New York mayor Michael Bloomberg will be launching a new green initiative focusing on the city’s theater district.

The “Broadway Goes Green” initiative is intended to reduce the carbon footprint of Broadway, which is a measure of the amount greenhouse gas it produces.

Preparing to kick off the initiative, ten Broadway theaters have begun doing their part by replacing nearly 10,000 regular lightbulbs with energy-efficient bulbs.

Bloomberg announced, “By this time next year, the lights on Broadway will burn just as bright, but the energy bills and our city’s carbon output will be lower.”

He added, “This commitment will raise the level of awareness for everyone involved in these shows including the audiences and that’s going to have an impact that reverberates far beyond the Big Apple.”

In addition to switching out the lightbulbs, the theaters will begin using eco-friendly materials to build their props and sets, and will recycle, reduce and reuse.
