Austin, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — Set to move back to his home state after eight tumultuous years in office, George W. Bush gave a final good luck handshake to President Obama and boarded a helicopter with wife Laura on Tuesday at the Capitol to begin his post-presidential life.

After a respectful salute from Vice President Joe Biden, the dark green chopper took off from Capitol grounds and made its way to Andrews Air Force Base, flying over the thousands of supporters.

According to the Associated Press regarding Obama’s send off of George Bush, “If there were any hard feelings between the incoming Democrat and outgoing Republican, they weren’t apparent in the Bush send-off at the base of the helicopter. The two men hugged and clasped hands one final time, sealing the transfer of power.”

The chopper carrying Bush and his wife departed at about 2 p.m. EST headed for Midland, Texas, where swarms of well-wishers have gathered to greet Bush at Centennial Plaza.

The Plaza is the same location he stopped on in route to the nation’s capitol prior to his own 2001 inauguration. Born in Connecticut, Bush spent his childhood in Midland and returned to the Lone Star state in the 1970s where he met his future wife.
